This change will make it easier to change the travel date of a confirmed ticket, eliminating the need for ticket cancellation charges. This means that if your plans suddenly change and you are unable to travel on the scheduled date, you can now travel on the same ticket for a later date. Previously, passengers had to cancel their tickets and rebook for a new date, which resulted in cancellation charges and no guarantee of a confirmed seat. This new change by the Railways will eliminate this hassle, providing relief to millions of passengers.

Online Date Change Option

According to an NDTV report, passengers will be able to change the date of their confirmed tickets online. Now, if you need to change your travel date for any reason, you can reschedule your ticket online. However, there's no guarantee of getting a confirmed ticket instead of a new one. This will depend on availability. Furthermore, if the new ticket is more expensive, you'll have to pay an additional fee. This feature will be especially beneficial for those who suddenly change their travel plans, thus wasting time and money canceling tickets.

The facility may become available starting this month.

The general public may soon have access to a new travel date change. This will allow the journey date of confirmed e-tickets to be changed directly online. This feature is expected to be available to the public starting January 2026. However, you'll only be able to change your ticket if there are available tickets for an alternate day on the train; otherwise, you'll have to cancel.

Currently, this fee is applicable.

Currently, people don't have the option to change their ticket's travel date. Everyone has to cancel their ticket, and this also requires paying a cancellation fee. Currently, cancellation fees for AC First Class or Executive Class tickets cost ₹240 + GST, for AC 2 Tier ₹200 + GST, for AC 3 Tier, AC Chair Car, and AC 3 Economy ₹180 + GST. Sleeper Class charges ₹120 and Second Class ₹60.
