Do you have to wait for a message every month after your PF deduction? Or are you stuck with the hassle of logging in repeatedly and unable to check your balance? Now, this problem is over. The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has launched a new feature, Passbook Lite, for its millions of PF members. This feature will show you your PF balance and transaction details with just one click.
What is Passbook Lite?
The EPFO recently introduced Passbook Lite as part of its digital reform (EPFO 3.0). This is a simplified version, allowing you to check your PF balance without the lengthy login process. Previously, you had to enter your UAN, password, and captcha to view your PF passbook. Now, simply entering your UAN and OTP will open your PF passbook on your screen.
Why was the new feature introduced?
According to the EPFO, people were frustrated with the old process of viewing PF passbooks. Sometimes, network issues or login failures made checking your balance impossible. Passbook Lite was specifically designed for those who want easy access to their funds without technical difficulties.
How does Passbook Lite work?
Users need to visit the EPFO's official website, www.epfindia.gov.in, and click on the Passbook Lite section. After entering the UAN number, an OTP will be sent to their mobile phone. Upon entering the OTP, the PF passbook will open, providing complete details of balance, contributions, and withdrawals.
Many questions arise in people's minds.
Following the launch of Passbook Lite, PF members are raising many questions. The biggest question is whether the Detail Passbook will be discontinued. Will Annexure K also be downloaded directly from the portal? And will this feature completely replace the old passbook?
Will the Detail Passbook still be available?
EPFO has clarified that Passbook Lite is only a convenient alternative. If you need a balance overview or quick details, the Lite passbook is sufficient. However, if you need to view monthly deposits, interest, and a complete record, the old passbook portal will still be available.
Annexure K is now easier.
Tracking PF transfers has become easier. The EPFO has stated that Annexure K can now be downloaded directly from the member portal. This means that when you change jobs and transfer PF, this document will be available online.
Will Passbook Lite replace the old passbook?
No, Passbook Lite is just a new feature added for user convenience. The detailed passbook feature will continue as before. The Lite version is for those who want to quickly check their PF balance.
It's worth noting that many users had difficulty viewing their PF passbook and complained about the system being slow. This new feature is not only faster but also easier for everyone. This feature will prove to be very helpful, especially for those who are close to retirement or who change jobs frequently.
