The Haryana government is launching the Lado Laxmi Scheme for women. Fulfilling its election promise, the BJP government will provide financial assistance of Rs. 2,100 per month to eligible women over the age of 23.
State and central governments across the country offer various schemes for women. Similarly, the Haryana government is also launching the Lado Laxmi Scheme for women. The Haryana government has issued a notification regarding this scheme. Fulfilling its election promise, the BJP government led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will provide financial assistance of Rs. 2,100 per month to eligible women over the age of 23. This scheme will be implemented from September 25th. This notification from the Haryana government includes certain conditions and regulations, which will prevent many women from availing the benefits of this scheme. The government estimates that only about 2 million women will be eligible under this scheme, while the state has approximately 8 million female voters between the ages of 18 and 60.
Which women will be eligible for the Lado Laxmi Scheme?
Women in Haryana who are 3 years of age or older are eligible for the Lado Laxmi Scheme. Furthermore, women whose families have an annual income of less than ₹1 lakh will also benefit from this scheme. If a woman or her husband has migrated from another state after marriage and has been a permanent resident of Haryana for 15 years, they will also benefit from this scheme.
Which women will not benefit from the Lado Laxmi Scheme?
According to the Haryana government's notification, there are several categories of women who are excluded from this scheme. In fact, women who already receive old age pension, widow assistance, disability financial assistance, Ladli Social Security, or any other social security benefits will not be eligible for the Lado Laxmi Scheme.
Women who already receive any type of pension, allowance, or financial assistance from the state government will also not benefit from this scheme.
Furthermore, women who are employed part-time or full-time in government departments, local bodies, or government institutions and whose family income exceeds 1 lakh rupees will also not benefit from this scheme.
Women in Haryana who pay income tax will also not benefit from the Lado Laxmi Scheme.
However, according to the notification, women suffering from certain serious illnesses have been included in this scheme despite being eligible for other schemes. These include women suffering from cancer, women with rare diseases, and women affected by hemophilia, thalassemia, and sickle cell anemia.
Why the political debate even after fulfilling an election promise?
In fact, the BJP had promised in its 2024 assembly election manifesto that all women in Haryana would benefit from this scheme. However, due to age limits, income requirements, and other rules, the opposition is accusing the Haryana government of breaking its promise. The BJP says this scheme is just the beginning and its scope may be expanded in the future. The government also says that the scheme is currently being implemented by prioritizing the most needy women.
