New Security Feature Spotted in iOS Beta

According to the well-known site WABetaInfo, this new option, called Strict Account Settings, has been spotted in the latest iOS Beta (TestFlight) version of WhatsApp. This feature can be found in the Privacy > Advanced section, where users can activate the "Extreme Protections" setting.

By turning on this mode, WhatsApp will automatically enforce several security restrictions, such as blocking media and attachments from unknown numbers, restricting callers or senders, and preventing unauthorized settings changes. However, the company also warns that call and message quality may be slightly reduced when this mode is activated.

Advanced Privacy Settings Will Be Automatically Applied

WABetaInfo reported that by turning on Strict Mode, WhatsApp will automatically activate several other privacy protections, including silencing unknown callers, allowing group invites only from saved contacts, disabling link previews, notifying users when encryption codes change, enabling two-step verification by default, and hiding personal information from unknown numbers.

Most of these features already exist within the app, but this new mode will automatically implement them with a single click. This feature will be especially useful for those who are more vulnerable to digital attacks, such as journalists, activists, or public figures.

When will this feature arrive?

WhatsApp has not yet announced a release date for this feature. Since it's currently in beta testing, it may take some time to reach iOS and Android users.
