Char Dham Yatra Closing Date 2025: The dates for the winter closure of the Char Dham shrines in Uttarakhand have been announced. The auspicious time for closing the doors of the Char Dham shrines has been determined on the auspicious festivals of Vijayadashami and Bhaiya Dooj. This is your last chance to attain the blessings of the Char Dham Yatra. The Char Dham Yatra is a journey to the four sacred pilgrimage sites of Uttarakhand – Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath – and symbolizes awakening the four conscious centers (sthalas) within us. These are also known as the four soul-purifying shrines of Hinduism, which are also connected to the four basic elements of life. Let's find out which shrines will close on which dates…

Learn when the doors of the Char Dham Yatra will close in 2025
Gangotri Dham
The doors of Gangotri Dham will close on the day of Govardhan Puja or Annakoot, which will be an auspicious date on Wednesday, October 22nd. The doors of the temple will be closed for the winter season on October 22nd at 11:36 am. After this, Mother Ganga will offer darshan in Mukhba village.
Yamunotri Dham
The doors of the Yamunotri Dham will close on the auspicious occasion of Bhaiya Dooj, i.e., Thursday, October 23rd, at 12:30 pm. After this, Mother Yamuna will be seen in Kharsali village, her winter residence, for the next six months.
Kedarnath Dham
The doors of the Kedarnath Dham will also close on Bhaiya Dooj, October 23rd, along with those of Yamunotri Dham. The doors of the Kedarnath Dham will close at 8:30 am on October 23rd, and from that day onwards, Kedarnath Baba will offer darshan from the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath.
Badrinath Dham
The doors of the Badrinath Dham will close on Tuesday, November 25th, at 2:56 pm. Before the doors close, the Panch Pujas will begin on November 21st, and the Nrisimha Temple Jyotirmath will offer darshan from the 26th.
Reasons for the Closing of Temples
There are several reasons for the closure of the Char Dham temples (especially in the Himalayan region). These are not only religious practices, but also natural and practical challenges. Located at high altitudes, these temples are vulnerable to heavy snowfall, blizzards, and cold winds. Winter weather closes the roads leading to the Dham, making traffic impossible. Therefore, the temples are closed to protect them. After the monsoon, the upper mountain routes are prone to landslides and rock falls, making closure necessary for the safety of pilgrims and laborers.
Importance of the Char Dham
Gangotri Dham
Gangotri Dham is considered the origin of the holy river Ganga. It is said that bathing here cleanses one of sins and purifies the soul. Geographically, Gangotri is located in the foothills of the Himalayas, and its natural beauty provides a spiritual experience to devotees.
Yamunotri Dham
Yamunotri Dham is the origin of the Yamuna River. Worship is dedicated to Mother Yamuna at this temple. Yamunotri is significant because the Yamuna is considered a life-giving river that cleanses the soul from sins.
Kedarnath Dham
Kedarnath Dham is a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. Kedarnath is considered one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Shiva. Visiting here is said to be the path to salvation for devotees. Despite natural disasters, high altitudes, and difficult routes, this shrine is a test of devotion and courage.

Badrinath Dham
Badrinath Dham is a shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Badrinath is considered the last of the four shrines and the culmination of the sacred pilgrimage. The natural environment, mountain beauty, and spiritual peace here offer a unique experience.
