Manawar (Madhya Pradesh): A pack of stray dogs attacked and killed a pet cat in Patel Colony, Manawar tehsil under Dhar district. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning at 11:40 and was captured on CCTV footage.
The cat's owner, Farhan Hussain, reported that more than four stray dogs from the locality were involved in the attack. The dogs wounded the cat so severely that it died on the spot.
Locals heard the commotion and rushed to try to save the cat, but it was too late. Farhan shared that he had brought the Persian cat home about three months ago for Rs 10,000.
In that short time, the cat had become a cherished member of the family, often eating and sleeping with them. Residents have expressed growing concern about the increasing violence of stray dogs in the area.
Some locals regularly feed these dogs, which may contribute to their aggressive behaviour, said locals. The community is urging municipal authorities to capture these stray dogs and relocate them to a safer area. They are also advising caution, especially at night, to prevent further incidents.
No Helmet, No Petrol: Indore District Administration To Enforce New Rule From August 1Civic body drive to catch stray dogs
In response to a surge in stray dogs and reported attacks, civic body initiated a 10-day campaign to catch and relocate dogs from 15 wards. The drive, which began on Thursday afternoon, aims to provide much-needed relief to residents. Officials said that the initiative follows directives from the Urban Administration Department and public complaints.
Over 20 stray dogs were caught from areas including Malvi Chowpatty, Gandhi Nagar, Ganesh Chowpatty, Old Manawar and Patel Colony. These dogs are being released outside the city limits. The unexpected increase in city's dog population has led to a rise in attacks on pedestrians and two-wheeler riders, especially at night.
The issue prompted public outcry and raised questions about the effectiveness of local authorities in managing the stray dog population.
