Drivers on one of the UK's busiest motorways sent stark warning during August

A cautionary note has been announced for motoristsusing one of the UK's most congested motorways - the M25. National Highways' planned works in August are set to disrupt journeys fordrivers and road users.

The agency stated: "To help people plan their summer journeys, we're announcing all confirmed A3 weekend closures through to September in one go." The next closure is slated for August 1, 2025 to August 4, 2025, with an additional weekend closure scheduled for September. Each will impose restrictions on sections of the A3 near junction 10.

From Friday, August 1, 2025 to Monday, August 4, 2025 National Highways will "close the A3 in both directions between Junction 10 Wisley Interchange and the B2215/A247 at Send from 9pm on Friday night until 6am on Monday morning." It comes after UK drivers were warned over 'avoiding' road instead of having to follow new rule.

The agency explained: "We need the closure to install several gantries and for resurfacing." For the southbound A3 main diversion, drivers should take the eastbound (anticlockwise) M25 to junction 9, reports Birmingham Live.

Then proceed south on the A243, join the southbound A24, the westbound A246 and the northbound A247 and re-join the southbound A3 at the Burnt Common interchange.

For the southbound A3 non-motorway diversion, take the northbound A3, then take the eastbound A245, the northbound A307, the eastbound A309 and the southbound A243 and then join the southbound A24, then take the westbound A246 and the northbound A247. Then re-join the southbound A3 at the Burnt Common interchange.

For the Northbound A3 main diversion, drivers should take the B2215 off the A3, then head south on the A247, east on the A246, north on the A24 and north on the A243.

Motorists can then join the westbound (clockwise) M25 at junction 9 and re-join the northbound A3 at junction 10. For those avoiding motorways on the Northbound A3, take the B2215 off the A3. Continue south on the A247, east on the A246, north on the A24 and north on the A243, then proceed west on the A309, south on the A307 and west on the A245.

Finally, re-join the northbound A3 at the A245 Painshill junction. The announcement stated: "We'll close the A3 southbound carriageway between the A245 Painshill roundabout and Burnt Common from 9pm on Friday night until 6am on Monday morning. We'll confirm diversion routes and share them ahead of the closure weekend, supported by web updates and local travel advice."
