EastEnders' Heather Peace shares importance of 'soulmates' Eve and Suki staying together

Send Push

Fear not EastEnders fans, despite some drama it seems one popular couple are very much sticking together.

Actress Heather Peace is sure fans have nothing to worry about after fears her character Eve could be headed for a split from her wife Suki after some rather explosive scenes recently. The pair had some time apart after Suki's decisions surrounding her granddaughter Avani's pregnancy left Eve and the family horrified.

But with scenes seeing the pair trying to get back on track, it seems they will do just that. Amid new spoilers seeing them planning their future, Heather told The Mirror it would “cheat” fans if the much-loved couple, dubbed Sukeve, were to call it quits.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror at the Inside Soap Awards, she confessed she’s hoping the soap couple will last, sharing the importance of representing a women loving women relationship. She told us: "It would cheat the fans if we were to break up over something like that.

"I think we've portrayed a story about soulmates, about people who can't be apart, but the situation was big enough for Eve to be apart from her for this long. Suki was slipping into her old ways by trying to get people to do what she wants them to do.

"Maybe not overtly manipulating, but there was manipulation there, and I think that was quite terrifying for Eve. There were a couple of arguments that absolutely blew the roof off and it was right for them to take that time.

"But I want to see them progress. I want to see a happy, successful woman-loving-woman marriage. We haven't seen that yet in soap, and it’s really important.”

She went on: "But the drama comes in there and the bits in-between that are not going so well. That's the stories right?" As we mentioned all the drama the pair have been through since a year ago, including their wedding day horror, Heather joked: "I think we should go to therapy, don't you?"

Heather also teased what's ahead for her character, as she shared her fondness for the fact Eve is a "bridge" between two huge families, the Slaters and the Panesars. She said: "I feel like Eve is a go-between with the Slaters and the Panesars.

"She's a character who sits in the middle, and I'd perhaps like to see that explored some more. What if the Panesars fell out with the Slaters, and Eve is in the middle?

"Eve is a bridging character for those two families, so we'll see where it goes." Heather's already missing her co-star Lacey Turner who's taken some time away from the show, with Heather calling Lacey her "absolute best pal".

Heather told us: "I'm just more concerned that Heather's not gonna have her bestie quite frankly! Sometimes I've got days where I have a scene in the morning and a scene later on, and I go and see Lacey in-between cos she's still a part of my working day. She's my absolute best pal. I adore her."
