New Delhi: The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested two suspected terrorists linked to an ISIS-inspired module who were reportedly undergoing training to carry out “fidayeen” or suicide attacks.
According to officials, the two accused, identified as Adnan and Adnan — both residents of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh — were apprehended after coordinated raids in Delhi’s Sadiq Nagar and Bhopal. Police said the arrests were made following credible intelligence inputs regarding their movements and plans.
A senior police officer said preliminary investigations revealed that the duo was associated with ISIS and were preparing to execute a major terror strike in the national capital. “Electronic devices and incriminating materials have been recovered from their possession,” the officer said. Arms and ammunition were also seized during the operation.
The Special Cell suspects that the module may have links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), which is believed to be operating several terror networks under the guise of ISIS. Officials said the arrests have helped avert a possible terror attack in Delhi.
The two accused were allegedly being trained for “fidayeen” operations and had been in touch with handlers abroad through encrypted online platforms. Police sources said their communication and digital footprints indicated that they were following instructions for a possible high-impact strike.
The accused are being interrogated to identify other members of the module and to trace the source of their funding and logistical support. Delhi Police said investigations are continuing to determine the extent of the network and whether it had already planted sleeper cells in the capital or other parts of the country.
