Odisha Assembly Adjourned Sine Die Ahead Of Schedule For Dussehra Festivities

Bhubaneswar: The Monsoon Session of the Odisha Assembly was on Wednesday adjourned sine die by Speaker Surama Padhy a day ahead of its scheduled date.

Earlier, government chief whip Saroj Kumar Pradhan moved a proposal to adjourn the Assembly, citing lack of official business and commencement of the Dussehra festivities.

Uproarious scenes marred most days of the session, which began on September 18 for a much-truncated period of just eight days, as Opposition BJD and Congress stormed the well of the House over fertiliser shortage, curtailment of powers of elected Panchayati Raj representatives and rise in the crimes against women across the state.

The Monsoon Session also saw Congress giving a notice for no-confidence motion against the Mohan Majhi government, which the Speaker rejected due to procedural lapses and continuous disruptions in the House.

The House transacted business for six days. Two bills – Odisha University Amendment Bill 2025 and the Odisha GST Amendment Bill 2025 – were passed, alongside a resolution thanking the Prime Minister for GST reforms.
