The nine remaining contestants returned to the famous tent for another edition of Channel 4's The Great British Bake Off on September 23, but viewers had a complaint moments in. The theme for the episode was Back To School, and saw the aspiring bakers tasked with creating nostalgic cakes that are affiliated with school days. The first creation they were asked to produce was a "fancy flapjack" and they all put forth ambitious concepts but viewers felt the concept was very wrong.
Taking to X one complained: "What is all that fancy s**** .... Whats wrong with square flapjack half dipped in melted choco ffs." Another agreed writing: "I am busy shouting at #GBBO. Why not do a 'normal' flapjack with good, tasty ingredients? It does not need a load log faff. It's all about the taste and a neat shape. It is a basic home economics lesson. No idea why some of them have overdone it."
A third chimed in: "Ummmm, not sure you should be messing around with the buttery, syrupy gorgeousness of a flapjack!"
"Lots of random things identifying themselves as a Flapjack. #GBBO," a fourth observed.
A fifth declared: "#GBBO I like a flapjack, but not all the fancy stuff, no goo, no nothing! - I'm a traditionalist."
However, one viewer was enjoying it penning: "This week on Bake Off 'School Week' I love it!! First bake = and I love baking Flapjacks."
During the task, and in keeping with the school theme, judge Paul Hollywood pulled up one of the conrtestatns for cheating. Nadia decided to make cherry and coconut flapjacks, which she said were her favourite childhood treat.
However when Paul saw she had a piece of paper with details of the temperature settings he jokesd she was cheating. "You're cheating, you're cheating in class and I think it's outrageous," he joked. "She may as well write it on the back of her hand!"
Following the flapjack task the competitors were then called uponto make a classic school cake creating everything from scratch - including the sprinkles.
Finally the showstopper round consisted of creating a school fete themed spread of cakes and nostalgic treats.
