Lewis Hamilton posted a heartbreaking tribute to his dog Roscoe ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix. The beloved pet sadly passed away last month after being treated for pneumonia.
Hamilton is set to miss the first practice session in Mexico City as Ferrari need to field a rookie in his place during two FP1 sessions before the season comes to an end. The Briton will be replaced by Antonio Fuoco, who won the Le Mans 24 Hours race with Ferrari in 2024. But Hamilton will return to his seat for the rest of the weekend and will be eyeing a podium place in Sunday's Grand Prix.
Hamilton took to Instagram on Friday to post two images of bulldog Roscoe, who still has his own page on the social media platform with 1.5 million followers.
The first one showed the adorable pooch and the racing driver enjoying a walk together, with the second image showing the dog lying down on lush green grass with his tongue out.
And Hamilton wrote: "Thinking of Roscoe always and especially today which would have been his 13th birthday. I miss you every day, buddy."
Hamilton missed a Pirelli tyre test at the Mugello Circuit in Italy last month after his pet was taken to hospital and placed in a coma.
He told his fans on social media: "Please keep Roscoe in your thoughts. I want to keep you all updated. Roscoe caught pneumonia again and was struggling to breathe. He was admitted into hospital and sedated to calm him while they did checks on him and during the process his heart stopped.
"They managed to get a heartbeat back and now he's in a coma. We don't know whether he will wake from this. Tomorrow we'll try to wake him up. I'm by his side and want to thank you all for your prayers and support."
But in a heartbreaking update, the 40-year-old later informed his followers: "After four days on life support, fighting with every bit of strength he had, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe. He never stopped fighting, right until the very end.
"I feel so grateful and honoured to have shared my life with such a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend. Bringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I ever made, and I will forever cherish the memories we created together.
"Although it was so hard, having him was one of the most beautiful parts of life, to love so deeply and to be loved in return."
