Liverpool's star forward Mohamed Salah is preparing for crucial discussions with Egypt manager Hossam Hassan next week in an attempt to sidestep another club-versus-country row ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations. Egypt are scheduled to hold a training camp before taking on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) before facing Jordan on Tuesday, December 9, and Nigeria on Sunday, December 14, as part of their preparations for the winter tournament.
As per local media, Egypt's boss Hassan has the authority to summon Liverpool's Salah - along with Manchester City's Omar Marmoush - for these two matches. However, Liverpool have Premier League and Champions League fixtures against Leeds United and Inter Milan respectively that week, and they want Salah available for those games.
It is believed that Salah would also rather stay and participate in these competitive matches for Liverpool, before joining up with the Egyptian squad the following week. He already faces missing out on as many as seven games depending on Egypt's success.
The 33-year-old is due to meet with Hassan during the November international break, with Egypt set to play Uzbekistan on Friday, November 14, and Algeria on Monday, November 17, in friendly matches.
Salah is eager to avoid any conflict between his club and country - a situation reminiscent of two years ago when Liverpool wrote to the Egyptian Football Association requesting that the former Chelsea player be excused from an international camp to safeguard his long-term health.
This request sparked outrage among locals in Cairo, Egypt's capital, who insisted it was 'their right' to call up Salah. However, the national team ultimately accepted Liverpool's request and Salah remained on Merseyside.
