If you're looking to make your plants live for longer, there's one simple item which you might usually get rid of that could be of use instead. In fact, this one item makes a great natural fertiliser.

When you're next making boiled potatoes, there's one part of your cooking process that you won't want to get rid of. Evergreen Seeds says: "Potato water for plants is a type of water that works superbly because it is an excellent organic fertiliser. You can use boiled potato water to help your plant grow healthy and strong."

The gardening website added that, "Potato water is beneficial for your plants". Potato water, it added, is organic and eco-friendly, it has strong fertiliser properties which can help your plants get the extra nutrients they need to grow healthily.

If you don't make boiled potatoes often, Evergreen Seeds says you can also try rice water, pasta water, purified tap water, or any liquid containing natural starch."

It adds: "The primary benefit of using potato water for plants is its help to promote growth. It's a good source of potassium, an essential nutrient for plants."

Flourishing Plants also said the water obtained from the potatoes contains minerals that plants need in order to grow healthy and produce green and healthy leaves.

If you're wondering how to make this water or add it to your plants, it can be made by boiling or soaking the peels in water for a period of time.

Additionally, soaking the peels in water and allowing them to sit for some time can also draw the minerals out from the peels and into the water.

You might usually throw your peels away anyway so you won't lose anything by boiling them and using the water for your plants.

If you're hoping to boost the growth of your plants, this method is natural, affordable and easy to create yourself at home.
