Prince William's surprising four-word reply to Meghan Markle's pregnancy announcement

Since quitting royal life in 2020, Prince Harry has made various revelations about the Royal Family, both on Netflix and in his memoir Spare. While a lot of these revelations were seen to be damaging to the monarchy, and resulted in a lot of rifts between the duke and his relatives, some were instead heartwarming.

One of these nicer revelations was Harry's recollection of telling his brother, Prince William, with whom he is no longer on talking terms, that he was going to become a dad. In his memoir Spare, the Duke of Sussex, 41, wrote about his older brother's reaction to Harry and Meghan Markle's news that they were expecting their first child, now known as Prince Archie.

The duke said that he decided to tell William the news at their cousin Princess Eugenie's wedding in October 2018.

At the wedding, Harry said he thought the wedding was a good opportunity to tell some of his relatives the news as they were all gathered together, with William having one sweet four-word reaction.

Recalling the moment, Harry wrote in his 2023 book: "After the drinks reception, in St George's Hall, Meg and I pulled Willy aside. We were in a big room, suits of armour on the walls. Strange room, strange moment.

"We whispered the news, and Willy smiled and said 'we must tell Kate'.

"She was across the room, talking to Pippa. I said we could do it later, but he insisted. So we went and told Kate and she also gave a big smile and hearty congratulations. They both reacted exactly as I'd hoped."

Recalling the moment in his memoir just a few years ago was likely to have been bittersweet for Prince Harry, who is no longer on talking terms with Prince William, 43.

It is believed the brothers fell out before Harry quit royal life, with the rift between the siblings growing even more after Harry and Meghan's 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, which saw they make some damaging allegations about the Royal Family.

The couple's 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan, followed by the prince's memoir, is believed to have been the final straw for William.
