Sweet peas need lots of tender loving care to keep them looking amazing. We must keep deadheading them to prevent the flowers from turning to seed pods.
At this time of year, sweet peas can go from full flowers to full of seed pods within a week. Deadheading is ideally done every few days to ensure new buds keep arriving. We want the sweet pea to keep producing new flowers throughout summer.
Sweet peas are very hungry plants, so give them some Vitax Q4 Pellets every few weeks to ensure the compost is nutrient-rich.
They are deep-rooted, so be sure to place the pellets around the base of the plant. When watered, the pellets will dissolve into the ground.
The sweet pea doesn't want to be left to dry; it requires regular watering; otherwise, it quite quickly wilts.
If you water them around the base every few days, you should keep them happy. The watering can be increased or reduced depending on the weather. If we do these three things, we can expect a lasting sweet pea flower display.
