Jannik Sinner winning this year's Wimbledon Championship marks the first time an Italian has taken home the trophy. Cementing this year as a memorable moment for the tournament. Wimbledon has been on the go since 1877 and the tennis festival has evolved over time but some things about it never change. Firstly, it never fails to attract the most talented players across the world and secondly, it is the only Grandslam to be played on grass.
But as with this year's memorable win there have been many moments from throughout the tennis competition's history that have been quite something to behold. Here are the top five most memorable moments in the Wimbledon Championship's lifetime.

Boris Becker burst on to the international scene at just 17 years old. in 1985, in his second shot at Wimbledon, the young star, fresh off his first ATP Tour title run, Becker entered the tournament at No. 20 in the world. But that was no issue for the youngster who had an incredible run to win Wimbledon and became the youngest champion in the tournament's history.
Relentless Nadal-Federer Final - 2008The rivalry between Nadal and Federer is considered one of the greatest in sports history, let alone tennis history and there face off in 2008 perfectly encapsulated that. In fact, many consider it to be the greatest match in tennis history and the then world No. 1 and No. 2 faced each other once again. At that point, Federer had won five consecutive Wimbledon titles. However, Nadal had recently defeated Federer in the final of the French Open only one month prior, so it was all to play for. After an epic battle, lasting almost five hours, Nadal claimed his first Wimbledon crown, ending Federer's all-time record.
Murray's Long-Awaited Triumph - 2013A big year for the Brits. Wimbledon had waited 77 years for a British Champion in the Gentlemen's singles, with the last one dating back to 1936 from Fred Perry. The year prior, Andy Murray lost to Roger Federer in the final. Fast forward to 2013 and he was once again entering the final but this time against Djokovic, the atmosphere was tense. For British fans of tennis, the long-awaited win would end there, as Murray won in a straight set and secured his first Wimbledon title.
Serena Williams is one of the most talented players tennis has ever known. Since 2002, the Williams sisters took their sibling rivalry to centre court in the final, where Serena took home her first Wimbledon title at the age of 20. But by 2016, Serena was still thriving and this was the year, when her win against Angelique Kerber secured her as an all-time great of the sport. Being her 22nd Slam and her seventh win at Wimbledon, she cemented her place in the Tennis Hall of Fame.
Djokovic Defends His Title - 2022Djokovic earned his 17th Wimbledon title, in 2022, after defeating Kyrgios, marking his fourth consecutive win. He started off by dropping the first set but came back fighting and stole the win in a fourth-set tiebreak. He now holds the record for the most major tennis titles in history.
