Bihar assembly polls: 6.6% of electorate declared ineligible in EC revision drive; final electoral roll due August 1

NEW DELHI: As many as 52.3 lakh electors not found at their addresses during the exercise of special intensive revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral roll, have so far been reported as deceased, permanently shifted, enrolled at multiple places or simply “not traceable”, the Election Commission said on Tuesday.

These 52.3 lakh electors, of which 18.7 lakh are reported as deceased, over 26 lakh as permanently shifted, 7.5 lakh as enrolled at multiple places and 11,484 as “not traceable,” comprise over 6.6% of Bihar’s 7.9 crore electorate as it stood on June 24, 2025. “Such electors will automatically get weeded out, adding to purity of the electoral roll,” said an EC officer.

Meanwhile, enumeration forms are yet to received from 21.3 lakh electors across Bihar, comprising no more than 2.7% of the state’s electorate. Thus, a good 97.3% electors in Bihar have already been covered under SIR with three more days to go for the July 25 deadline for submission of the signed forms. All those who turn in their forms by the deadline, with or without the necessary documentation, will be included in the electoral roll to be published on August 1, 2025.

The documents may be added during the claims and objections period.

Thanks to intensified efforts by the entire election machinery comprising 1 lakh booth level officers (BLOs) and 4 lakh volunteers as well as the 1.5 lakh booth level agents (BLAs) and district presidents of 12 major political parties, around 8.3 lakh more voters submitted their enumeration forms in the last 24 hours.

With three more days to go, the EC is hopeful of receiving the remaining enumeration forms within the deadline.

EC on Tuesday reiterated that members of the public will get a month until September 1, to file objections for any additions, deletions and rectification in the draft electoral roll.
