NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs on Tuesday held a pre-departure briefing on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visits to the United Kingdom and the Maldives, beginning July 23.
This will mark PM Modi’s fourth official trip to the UK.
Foreign secretary Vikram Misri outlined the agenda for the UK visit, saying, "The Prime Minister will embark on an official visit to the United Kingdom tomorrow, July 23, for discussions with Prime Minister Keir Starmer. He will also call on King Charles III and interact with top business leaders from both India and the UK."
Highlighting the evolving bilateral ties, Misri said, "The India-UK partnership was upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2021 and has since witnessed regular high-level exchanges. Both sides remain committed to elevating this partnership further. Regular engagements occur at the level of external affairs ministers, along with multiple institutional mechanisms covering strategic, economic, energy, and scientific domains."
During the visit, PM Modi and his British counterpart Starmer are expected to hold wide-ranging talks on the full spectrum of India-UK relations and exchange views on pressing regional and global developments.
In the second leg of his tour, PM Modi will make a state visit to the Maldives from July 25 to 26 at the invitation of President Muizzu. The visit comes amid efforts to stabilise diplomatic ties following recent strains in India-Maldives relations.
