NEW DELHI: In what could prove a game-changer in the Bihar polls , PM Narendra Modi will launch via video-conferencing on Friday Bihar's Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana and directly transfer Rs 10,000 each into the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across the state.
Officials said the scheme was aimed at making women "atmanirbhar" (self-reliant) and promoting empowerment through self-employment and livelihood opportunities.
JDU national executive president Sanjay Kumar Jha said six months after the first payment of Rs 10,000, govt would review and assess self-employment initiatives before providing additional assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh each in stages.
"This historic day will be celebrated as a public festival in the state," he said.
Deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary said the total amount of Rs 7,500 crore disbursed under the scheme would give new wings to women's dreams in the state.
Financial assistance is being provided to one woman from each family in the state.
The scheme will be community driven and resource persons connected to self-help groups will provide women training to support their endeavours. To support the sale of their produce, "gramin haats" will be further developed in the state.
